Weekly Blog

Students had a great time reading with their buddies in their pajamas on literacy day last Monday.

Students have continued to use the CUBES method to solve a variety of division problems. They are making the connection between their knowledge of times tables and how that can help them with division.

We have been using the Design Thinking Model as a lens for looking at the story, Ada's Violin. This is a story of ingenuity in a seemingly hopeless city of Paraguay. Using materials found in the dump, instruments for an orchestra are built and young children, including Ada, learn to play. Students empathized, identified the problem and how ideation transformed this community.

Throughout the week, students took part in a series of science experiments that will give them the building blocks for their future project where they will be designing and building prototypes of homes. They learned about forces, arches, towers and joins.

Students continue to work on their Peruvian Fairy Tales. They are stretching out the action in the middle of their stories, adding the thoughts and feelings of the characters, dialogue and lots of descriptions.
