Friday Blog

Students are excited about our upcoming field trip to Studio Bell on the 21st of February. We need 4 parent volunteers to accompany us. Please let your child know if you are available and a form will be sent home for you. Otherwise, you can contact me directly at mldevereux@cbe.ab.ca

In preparation we have been learning all about sound and hearing. Students recently came home with their plan for building an instrument that both makes sound and can change pitch. We will begin building these on Monday. In addition, we completed an experiment on pitch using jars filled with varying amounts of water.

In mathematics, students have been working on perimeter. As an added challenge, they have been naming the 2D shapes they are working with and using their recall knowledge of doubles to find the perimeter more efficiently.

Students continue to work on their Peruvian board games. They are using their research to create a set of question and answer cards that will be used in their games. When completed, students will no only be reviewing their knowledge of life in Peru, but they will also have fun while doing so!

We have been reading and listening to a range of Fairy Tales and students have now begun the process of "Stealing Stories" from some well-known tales and setting them in Peru. They have begun to build dioramas and their characters to use as a backdrop for them to tell their stories orally. Meanwhile, we have started a class plan that students are using as a model for their own unique plans.
